LAXART presented the first solo exhibitions in Los Angeles of Nir Evron and Orit Raff in 2014. As part of this project, the film Measuring Endurance by Nir Evron was commissioned. This compelling production was the third part in the artist’s architectural triptych, which focuses on buildings in Jerusalem and surrounding environs including The 7 Arches Hotel on Mount of Olives, King Hussein’s unfinished summer palace in North Jerusalem and Rawabi, the new Palestinian city under construction in the West Bank. Through poetic investigations of space, the artist speaks to polemics, histories, identities and territories through formalist strategies. Evron is invested in the potential and the politics of site. Influenced by structuralist film, this piece was a study in space and time. Evron investigated the relationship between representations of the past and our understanding of current and future processes. The film debuted at LAXART in July 2014 and subsequently traveled to the Tel Aviv Museum. To compliment Evron’s project, LAXART staged Orit Raff’s first solo exhibition, Priming, in the adjoining gallery and produced an accompanying artist book. This project took shape with support from LAXART Director and Curator, Lauri Firstenberg, a participant in an Artis’ Research Trip program.
