Artis presented an artist talk and reception with Izhar Patkin at Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Santa Monica. Izhar Patkin is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice deals with reinventing the structure and technique of visual narratives. Through painting, sculpture and vivid storytelling, his work makes imaginative use of materials and complex visual metaphors. In his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles in nearly two decades, Patkin débuted The Dead Are Here (2009) at Shoshana Wayne Gallery, which featured a room wrapped with 14’ tall wall size paintings in ink on tulle curtains. These dreamlike paintings are part of a collaboration that began in 1999 between Patkin and the late revered Kashmiri poet Agha Shahid Ali.
